Easy Smokey Eye - Urban Decay Naked (1st Edition) & Naked Basics Palette

I am NOTORIOUS for forgetting even the smallest things so it didn't really surprise me when I was playing around with my make-up for my blog and I forgot to take a photo to upload (insert buzzer sound here).... No wonder my family call me "Mary the Airy Fairy".... hmmm.......

Luckily, I remember what shadows I used so I can still explain the look and if you wish, you can re-create this make-up look yourself or change it up to suit you... the choice is yours.

Ok... let's get started.....

1. First things first, always make sure to prime your eyelids when creating a smokey eye to prevent creasing and help your eyeshadow stay put all night. I used Urban Decay's Primer Potion (photo below) but you can use any primer you like or even concealer. Don't forget to take it under the lower lash line as well.

Note: Using a primer or concealer as a base assists in making your eyeshadow appear more vibrant.

2. Next, with a flat shader brush take the shadow "W.O.S." from the Naked Basics Palette (photo below) and apply this all over the lid, taking it slightly above the crease/socket. You can use any nude colour you have or you can use a white eyeliner pencil and blend it with your finger.

3. Then with a fluffy blending brush, take a matte light brown shadow and apply it to the crease using a circular windshield wiper motion (does that make sense?!) to blend the colour up above the crease and out so there are no harsh lines. It may look a little messy but it will all come together in the end. I used the colour "Buck" from the Naked Palette (photo below).

4. Using that same blending brush and the Naked Palette, take the colour "Darkhorse" (photo below) and apply it over the light brown shadow. Try to not take it too far up because you still want to see that brown shadow peeking through. Concentrate it mainly on the outer corner. You can use any dark goldish/brown shimmery colour as an alternative if you don't have the Naked Palette.

5. Now take an angled brush and dip it into the colour "Crave" which is a very pigmented matte black eyeshadow from the Naked Basics Palette (photo below). Use it to outline the crease and outer corner creating a sideways "V" like shape but you only need a tiny amount of shadow at first as it is very pigmented and you can always intensify it to your liking. Any matte black eyeshadow will do.

6. Taking a clean fluffy brush, start blending the black eyeshadow concentrating it on the outer corner. Make sure you don't cover that light brown shadow as you need that as your transition colour. Keep blending until there are no harsh lines.

7. Now that all the darker shadows are well blended you can decide whether you want to leave it like that or you can add a light shimmery colour to make your eyes stand out. I used "Half Baked" from the Naked Palette (photo below) on the centre of the lid to give it that pop of gold but even a shadow like "Sidecar" or "Sin" would work just as well.

8. Then take any pearl or white shimmery colour and apply that to the brow bone and tear duct as a highlight. I used "Venus" from the Naked Basics Palette (photo below). Also, apply it to the lower lash line taking it only half way.

9. Take an angled brush and dip it into the colours "Buck", "Darkhorse" and "Crave" and apply it to the outer lower lash line connecting it with "Venus" and blending it in the middle.

10. At this point you can do a winged eyeliner or you can skip it and just apply either a white or black eyeliner to your water line. Then curl your eyelashes and apply generous coats of mascara to your top AND bottom lashes.

Now just finish off with contour, blush, etc and you are all done and ready for a night out.

I'm still kicking myself that I didn't get a photo buuuuuuuuut there will be plenty more looks to follow, I promise.

If you have any requests for any looks you want to see, just leave them down below and I will be happy to re-create it for you.

Bye lovelies xxx
